CASEY OVERES

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to our beloved husband, father and grandfather, CASEY OVERES, who passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at the St. Michael’s Palliative Care Centre in Lethbridge at the age of 72 years.

Casey was born in de Hoof, Holland on May 25, 1937. He was the third youngest of 13 children born to Simon and Catharina Overes. In 1952 he immigrated to Canada with his family, settling in the Picture Butte area. In 1964 he met the love of his life Margaret Elfring, whom he eventually married on August 20, 1966. They moved to Lethbridge where together they raised three sons; Doug, Scott and Darren. Casey was a Journeyman Partsman and began his career with Hepp’s Auto Wreckers in 1956. He eventually became part owner and manager of Hepp’s in 1974 until his retirement in 1998. Casey was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the Royal Canadian Legion. Aside from his love of cars, Casey was a skilled craftsman and blacksmith making numerous projects, most notably his clock, sundial, cannon and Gatling gun. His passion for metal working is only surpassed by his devotion and love for his family, especially his two granddaughters who affectionately called him “Papa”.

In the days leading up to his passing, Casey was surrounded by his family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Margaret, their sons Doug (Dione) of Lethbridge, Scott of Calgary and Darren of Okotoks and his two granddaughters Victoria and Jaida of Calgary.
