CAROL ANNE SZPAK of Lethbridge, AB, passed away at St. Michael’s Palliative Care Unit on Tuesday, December 23, 2008 at the age of 61 years after a valiant battle with cancer. Carol is survived by Gordie, her loving husband of 42 years and their son Darren (Stephanie) of Victoria and daughter Lori (Tom Borau) of Calgary and precious granddaughter Madison Borau. Carol is also survived by her sister Valerie (Tim Seehagel), brother Clark Johnson, mother-in-law Ann Szpak, sisters-in-law Sharon (Ken Moriyama), Charlene (Bill Hutton), brothers-in-law Stephen Szpak and Marvin (June) Walker, stepmother Lillian Johnson, stepsisters Ashala Bracken and Terry (Bruce Johnson) as well as numerous nieces and a nephew. Carol was predeceased by her mother Grace in 1966 and her father Al in 2000. Carol began her career that she so dearly loved, with Lethbridge School District #51 while volunteering as her children attended elementary school. Carol’s career continued while employed with the school district until June 2007 when she began her fight against cancer. Carol’s selfless, kind-hearted, gentle spirit and extraordinary generosity will be missed by so many who were fortunate enough to have known her. The family would also like to extend heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Julian Raphael, Dr. Holland, staff at the Lethbridge Cancer Clinic and staff at St. Michael’s Palliative Care Unit as well as numerous neighbors and friends. Special recognition goes out to lifelong friend Pat Christie. At Carol’s request, there will be no service.
