CARL WINKLER

HENRY ‘CARL’ WINKLER, beloved husband of Mary Winkler, of Stirling, AB, passed away at home, on Sunday, June 28, 2009 at the age of 76 years. He is the loving father of Charles Winkler of Fort Nelson, BC, Gary (Christine) Winkler of Lousana, AB, Cindy (Randy) Oler of Lethbridge, AB, and a caring Grandfather to Dustin, Daniel, Lacy, Cody, Dylan and Jessica. He is also survived by his sister Mary Wood, Sister in law Elsie Kenney and Brother in law, David Halvorsen. He was predeceased by his parents Albert and Ellen, and nephew Wyatt Werner. Carl was born in Taber, AB January 8, 1933. His parents were Albert and Ellen Winkler. Carl was raised on a farm west of Raymond, AB. After his schooling in Raymond he joined the army as a Signalman with the UN Forces in Cyprus as a peacekeeper. After being discharged he met Mary. They were married July 29, 1959 in Shelby, Montana. Carl was a member of the Highway King’s Motorcycle Club in Calgary, AB. He worked seismograph in Northern AB and worldwide he worked in Algeria, Venezuela, Napal, Saudi Arabia, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Cuba and traveled in many other countries. Carl’s main interest was radios. He was HAM Operator VE6 HCW. After retiring from seismic he operated a Radio Shack in Raymond for five years. He returned to Calgary, where he had a CB Radio repair shop at the Road King Truck Stop. Carl retired to Stirling, AB where he continued to repair radios. Among his many activities, he was involved with the bowling club and the ham radio club. Funeral Service to be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, Alberta on Thursday, July 2, 2009 at 2:00 P.M.
