ANN BURLA, beloved wife of John Burla, passed away on Friday, January 9, 2015 at the Edith Cavell Nursing Home in Lethbridge at the age of 93 years.
She was a long-term resident of Edith Cavell, having spent the last 14 1/2 years there until her passing.
Ann was born on December 19, 1921 at Zascianocze Trembowla, Poland. At the age of four, her parents and family immigrated to Canada where they established their new home life in Canmore, Alberta. Upon completing high school, Ann enrolled at the Royal Alexandra School of Nursing in Edmonton. After graduating in the 1940's, Ann moved to Lethbridge and began her career as a Registered Nurse at the Galt Hospital, St. Michael's Hospital and Auxiliary - later moving to the Roy Clinic.
It was in Lethbridge where she eventually met John Burla. After a courtship, Ann and John were married on July 22, 1950. Their marriage lasted almost 50 years until John passed away on July 10, 2000. He also was a resident of Edith Cavell. Ann was an avid and vocal hockey fan of the Lethbridge Broncos and later, the Lethbridge Hurricanes. Ann and John were shareholders and long-time season ticket holders. She also enjoyed playing cards, especially Bridge and Crib. The couple were active members of the Cosmopolitan Club of Lethbridge and enjoyed camping on their annual trips back to Canmore and British Columbia.
Ann leaves to mourn four sons; Mike (Linda Cook), Don (Dianne Hackson), Ken (Anna) and Rick (Shelley). Ann is also survived by eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her parents, Nicholas and Johanna, her sister Jeanette and two infant siblings.
She is survived by her brother John Krasnodemski of Banff and Olga Garcia of Calgary.
A Prayer Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB, on Thursday, January 15, 2015 at 7:00 P.M. with Deacon Frank Peta officiating.
A Funeral Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, on Friday, January 16, 2015 at 1:00 P.M. with Deacon Frank Peta officiating.

The Burla family would like to sincerely thank the entire staff of the Edith Cavell Nursing Home for all of their compassionate and tender care of our mother during her last years of life. We would also like to acknowledge the professional and courteous service provided to our family by Cornerstone Funeral Home.
