GERALD "GERRY" BROOKS, the beloved husband of Pat Brooks, of Lethbridge, passed away on Wednesday, December 23rd, 2020, at the age of 79 year
Gerald (Gerry) went to be with his loving Lord Jesus on Dec 23, 2020. He never faltered in his faith the 17 months he battled with cancer. He was born in Pleasantdale, Sk on Nov 10 1941 to Grey & Clara Brooks, he was the 6th of 8 children. He left home at the age of 15 & immediately started working converting oil chimneys into gas chimneys, then went on to paint elevators for Saskatchewan Wheat Pool.
In the summer of 1959 he met his best friend, Pat & she became his wife on Nov 12, 1960. They had 3 children & 6 grandsons. Daughter Leanne, son Darin (Marla), grandsons Tyson & Dakota, step-grandchildren Ruqaya & Sam, daughter Tamara (Darrel Thompson) grandsons Baxter, Noah, Jakob & River.
Gerry wrote his GED (age 28) & attended 2 years of Univ in Regina & then 1 year of College at SIAS in Saskatoon, after receiving his degree in Social work we moved to Meadow Lake Sk where he worked for Social Services & then Indian Affairs. He was transferred to Saskatoon with Indian Affairs, & spent 3 months in the Yukon on a placement, he later transferred over to Unemployment Insurance as an investigator. Evenings & weekends he would install blinds & drapes for Pat's drapery business. After 35 years with the Provincial & Federal Gov't & 18 years as an installer, he retired. We moved to Lethbridge in 2006 to be closer to Al/Kathy, many hours were spent visiting, playing cards, golfing, camping until Al's passing in 2012. In 2003 we started an embroidery business with Gerry doing all of the embroidering after 4 years the business grew & we were no longer retired, so we sold it, again we enjoyed retirement.
Gerry was involved in many sports, & good at anything he tried golf, curling, ball, umpiring fastball, senior hockey, fishing, camping, & playing Kaiser. Gerry loved his golf so we spent 10 years going to California meeting Doreen & Bernie there, then went to Yuma for 3 years, golfing on winter holidays. When Gerry made friends with someone, he became a good & loyal friend.
He was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Harold, Roy, Al, Bert, sisters Shirley & Ada. Infant daughter Leanne & grandson Baxter. He leaves behind his wife, lover & best friend Pat of 60 years, his children & grandchildren who were the love of his life, brother Dale (Betty Lou) & sister-in-law Kathy Brooks & Pat's family of 4 sisters, plus numerous nieces & nephews & friends.
We are so very thankful to Dr. Elvira Smuts, & St. Michael's palliative care staff, & home care for their loving, compassionate care. Nephew Dan who was available 24/7, & he sat with Gerry many times so Pat could get some rest time. Also to Pastor Kimbal, John, Dale & Bernice, Sharmaine, & Hannah who were there for me anytime, and our church family at College Drive Community Church & family & friends who have walked with us every step of the way on this journey with prayer & support. In lieu of flowers, donations in Gerry's memory may be made to St. Michael's Foundation, 1400 9th Ave. S Lethbridge, T1J 4V5
Gerry had a phrase that he continually shared with others GIG (God is good). This phrase summed up Gerry's attitude especially while on this journey.
