JACOBUS "JAKE" BRAAT, of Lethbridge, beloved husband of Shirley Braat, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, at St. Michael's Health Centre on Wednesday, February 8, 2023 at the age of 86 years.
Along with his loving wife Shirley, Jake is survived by his children: Jack (Lucy), Frances (Dennis), Dean (Ellen) and Mitch (Raelle), as well as six grandchildren Mishel (Desmond), Braden, Darryl, Lindsay, Connor (Seairra) and Kayla (John). He is also survived by his brothers Case (Katie) and Fritz (Lisa), sister Anne (Hank) Koot and sister-in-law Mildred.
Jake was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend. His life was the definition of true compassion and love. He successfully built an internationally progressive hog breeding operation, while raising a family.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Elizabeth "Beth" and daughter Carol, as well as siblings John (Bep) Braat, Morris (Jane) Braat, Peter Braat, Gerry Braat and Joanne Braat.
In retirement, he always had time for coffee, whether it meant stopping for three, if not four breaks each day. Jake enjoyed time at Perlich's Auctions, as there was always time for a coffee and a piece of pie with his coffee group friends.
Special thanks to Dr. Dalphond for her care and compassion throughout the years, as well as to the staff at St. Michael's Long-Term Care for their patience, understanding and kindness.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at ST. AMBROSE CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1513 - 23 Avenue, Coaldale, AB, on Thursday, February 16, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. with Father Ian Gagne celebrating. The Funeral Mass will be live-streamed and may be viewed through Jake's obituary on the Cornerstone website.
