We lost a Mom, Granny, Great Granny and Aunty on Wednesday, September 23, 2020. Dorine May (Hearne) Boulton was born May 22, 1927, and was 93 years old at her passing.
She was born and raised in Lethbridge and lived her entire life here. She was raised on an acreage with her older sister where her Dad had an Abattoir, and attended a one room country school house at McLean School. She later went on to Olds College.
She was a woman of simple means and pleasures, who treasured the importance of family and friends. Everyone who met Dorine always complemented how gracious, kind, and loving she was. No cat, dog, horse, or critter was ever turned away from the Boulton farm. Many people would choose to drop off unwanted pets because Dorine would always take care of one more outcast. She adored her Hafllinger ponies and loved walking her dogs along the country roads.
Dorine was known for her generosity, and she could never say no to anyone who asked for money or anything else she had. Farm meals were always hot and prepared and "there was always room for one more person to pull up a plate". But life was not always easy, and she was known for working very hard long hours on the dairy farm she and Dick had north of the city. She was an astute businesswoman, who was President and on the Board of Directors for City Packers, County Foods, and County Meats for many years.
Dorine is survived by her daughter Norma Boulton (Brian Murray), and her son Scott (Connie) Boulton, two granddaughters: Carly (Tim Hachkowski) and Darby Boulton, and great-grandsons: Ryker Boulton and Remington Hachkowski. She will be missed by many nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors in the Sunnyside Community. Dorine was predeceased by her husband Dick Boulton in 1998 after 50 years of marriage, and her only sister June Smith in 2013; as well as numerous family and friends.
The past five years Dorine lived off of the farm, spending her time at Columbia Assisted Living and then Cedar Creek Adaptacare. Dorine was always adored by her caregivers, and was known as a "nurse favorite" by everyone who knew her. The family of Dorine would like to thank all the wonderful caregivers and Dr. Sam deWalle who helped take such special care of this lovely, exceptional woman. Although Dorine was frail these last few years, she was mighty in spirit. She was always up for a good conversation of "who was doing what in the community" as she shared a good strong cup of coffee and cream. She was such a kind and loving woman who will be missed by everyone who knew her. Heaven is her new home now.
At Dorine's request, there will be no funeral. A private family graveside service will be held at Royal View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
