Date of Service: February 28, 2026

With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of BORIS CAROLUS HORVATH, beloved husband of Fern Ann Lys Horvath of Lethbridge, Alberta, passed away peacefully at the Chinook Regional Hospital on Friday, January 30, 2026, at the age of 82.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife Fern; his son Mikhael Horvath of Kelowna; his daughter Andrea Horvath-Greeve of Calgary; and his grandchildren Amalia, Mary, Jakub, and Camila Horvath. He is also survived by his brother Ivan Horvath of Slovakia.

Boris was predeceased by his parents, Dr. Jozef and Margita Horvath, and his siblings Margita Horvath and Dr. Jozef Horvath, all of Slovakia. Born in Slovakia, Boris came of age during a time of political upheaval. In 1968, amid the Soviet invasion, his courage and quiet determination led him to leave his homeland to Canada in search of freedom and opportunity.

An agricultural engineer by training, Boris earned a Master of Science in Agricultural Engineering from the University of Alberta. Through perseverance, humility, and hard work, he built a meaningful career and life. One of his early roles was with the Land Development Branch in Medicine Hat, working in the Water Resources Division of the Department of Agriculture. He later worked for the Lethbridge Northern Irrigation District (L.N.I.D.) for over fifteen years and eventually went on to apply his expertise internationally, designing irrigation canals in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

In Canada, Boris built a life grounded in love, integrity, and service. He met the love of his life, Fern, and they married in 1974, sharing a devoted partnership marked by warmth and enduring romance. Together, they raised a family to whom he passed on his kindness, resilience, strong work ethic, and faith. Guided by his Christian beliefs, he lived with generosity of spirit and genuine care for others. Boris was also known for his exceptional wine-making abilities, which he joyfully shared with family and friends.

Despite significant health challenges in later years, Boris never lost his hope or gentleness. He met life and its hardships with quiet strength and unwavering love. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
