He married Lee in 1963 and together they raised a family of five. In 1975 Bernard began working at Writing-on-Stone Provincial Park as Maintenance Foreman until his retirement in 1994. Bernard and Lee stayed on the farm until 2008 when they moved to the Prairie Rose Lodge in Milk River.

Dad had a strong faith and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus. He was always happiest when he was surrounded by family. Dad was taught the value of hard work at a very young age and carried that with him throughout his whole life. Not only did he pass that on to his children but also to each person that worked beside him. You would always find dad in the garden, the barnyard or picking weeds, always doing something. It was never work for dad that was just who he was :)
