SHIRLEY JOY BIRCH, nee McKay, the beloved wife of the late Dennis Birch, passed away peacefully at Fairmont Extendicare on Monday, August 22nd, 2022, at the age of 92 years.
She was born September 27th, 1929, in Scott, Saskatchewan to Thomas & Perry McKay. At the age of six months, they moved to Birch Hills, Saskatchewan, where she received her high school education.
Shirley worked at Eaton's in Prince Albert from 1950 to 1958. After that, they moved to Calgary, Alberta, and worked at Eaton's from 1958 to 1971. On August 21st, 1971, she married her husband Dennis, and they moved to Ponoka, Alberta until 1973. They then moved to Victoria, B.C. for six months. Then they moved to Coronation, Alberta until 1975, when they moved to Coaldale, Alberta. While there Shirley worked at the grocery store and Robinson's store, retiring in 1985. Shirley and Dennis spent many of their winters in Yuma, Arizona.
Predeceased by her husband Dennis in 2018, she leaves to mourn her step-daughter Patricia (Bernard), step-son Bill, four grandsons, Matthew, Justin, Ryan, and Travis, one granddaughter, Denise, seven great grandchildren, two nephews Myron Brost and Philip Melville and four nieces Debby Gordon, Lu Anne Lautner, Margaret Walberg and Liz McKay. Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her sisters Marie Friesen, Margaret Jelstad, Jean Brost, and her brother Howard McKay, her sister-in-law Phyllis McKay, brother-in-law Ernie Brost and one niece Valerie Brost.
Shirley requested that in her memory, please donate to your local Humane Society.
A Funeral Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2825 - 32 Street South, Lethbridge, on Monday, August 29th, at 1:00 P.M., with Rev. Dr. Carolyn Langford officiating. Cremation will follow. A private interment will be held on Tuesday at Mountain View Cemetery, Lethbridge.
