BETH MARION STOCKDALE

Born August 2, 1930; died April 20, 2013

It is with heavy but faithful hearts we announce the passing of our dear mother, wife, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, BETH MARION STOCKDALE (nee GAUNT) of Cardston. Beth passed away in the Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge on the morning of Saturday, April 20, 2013 surrounded by her family, at the age of 82.

Beth was predeceased by her former husband Floyd HAWTHORNE and her parents Esther and John GAUNT. Beth is survived by her husband, Victor STOCKDALE, as well as a large extended family consisting of 13 children, 65 grandchildren and 77 great-grandchildren.

Beth was born in Wetaskiwin, Alberta, the fourth child of five and was very active in helping her parents run the family farm. Beth was active in sports and was a member of the Red Deer girl’s slow-pitch team which won the 1946 Alberta Provincial Championship.

Beth worked in a café in Calmar, Alberta, that her mother ran and it was there that she met a young, handsome oil rig worker named Floyd. They soon married and raised six children. Floyd passed away in 2007. Beth met Victor shortly thereafter and they were married in 2008. Whether the children, grandchildren or great-grandchildren were Hawthorne or Stockdale, she loved them all.

Beth and Floyd were converts to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They and their oldest son Jim took the missionary discussions and then were baptized in 1964 after the missionaries were sent to teach them by Beth’s sister Florence Watkins. Beth thus began the Christ-like service and devotion that continued throughout her life.

For the next 48 years, any family in her ward with a sick parent or child could count on a meal or a baked treat from Beth. This continued until her death, despite her physical limitations. Beth was devoted as well to temple work and was very happy to be living in the shadow of the Temple. Beth took great joy in doing temple work for her ancestors as well as those that she was not familiar with.

Beth’s funeral will be held at THE TEMPLE STREET CHAPEL- Cardston, Alberta on Friday, April 26, 2013, at 10:00 A.M, with the family viewing at 9:00 A.M.

Her interment and the dedication of the grave will take place on Saturday, April 27, 2013 at 10:00 A.M., at Glenwood Memorial Gardens - 52356 Range Road 232 - located approximately 300 meters south of Sherwood Park, Alberta.

Beth’s family would like to thank the nurses and doctors of the Cardston Clinic and Hospital, as well as the Chinook Regional Hospital for their empathy and support of Beth and her family and friends in her final week.
