Klein, Bernard

April 17, 2024

BERNARD “BERNIE” KLEIN passed away in St. Michael’s Palliative Care Unit on April 17, 2024 after a valiant battle with cancer. He was born in Leask, Saskatchewan on June 11, 1935.

Bernie is survived by his loving wife Gerri; his son Tim (Marcella) and grandsons Paul (Alex Woelfle) and Mark; sister Lillian Nadeau and brothers Herb and Art Klein. He is also survived by Gerri’s children Neal (Suellen), Marlin (Darlene) and Vince (Dawn) Konynenbelt and Jolayne (Chris) Coe and their families as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his wife Mary; his daughter Wendy Klein and her husband Paul Oevering; sister Helen George and brother Charles Klein as well as his parents.

Dad was a generous provider to his family throughout his life and very giving to friends and neighbors. He had a passion for motorcycles and cars that spanned his lifetime. Dad worked in the trucking and freight delivery industries until his retirement on June 13, 1996. He very much enjoyed spending time with his two grandsons whom he loved dearly. His grandsons remember many special moments with Grampa, G or G-man - various special names given to him through the years. Dad was an impeccable dresser and was indeed the classic “sharp dressed man”! Dad was very handy and seemed able to accomplish whatever task he set his hand to and was a problem solver on many levels.

Bernie was blessed with 62 years with his first love, Mary, and was an excellent caregiver for her in her later years. In 2021 Bernie found love and companionship again and enjoyed 2 ½ wonderful years with Gerri until his passing.

Dad was a kind and gentle man who will be missed by many. Rest well until we meet again!

We extend our sincere thanks to the many doctors and caregivers who have looked after Dad through his cancer journey and a special thank you to the staff at St. Michael’s Palliative Care Unit for their excellent care of Dad during his last days.

A Private Funeral Service will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME with Pastor Donna Alm officiating. Following the service, Bernie will be laid to rest in Mountain View Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
