BERNARD BASTIAN

BERNARD CARL BASTIAN, beloved husband of Rae, was called home peacefully to be with the Lord, on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at the age of 82 years. Left to cherish his memory are his best friend and loving wife of 30 years, Rae; one sister, Bernice; one son, Donald; daughter-in-law Linda Malesza, two grandsons, Garrett and Ward Bastian; numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, as well as many cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Margaret; one brother Bertram; one sister Beatrice; two sons Ian and David and first wife Doreen. Bernard was born on August 29, 1926 in Pincher Creek, AB. He grew up on the family farm near Pincher Creek. Bernard enjoyed farming, as well as his employment with Flint Engineering where he remained until his retirement in 1984. He was a gentle man who loved his Lord, church, family and the outdoors. Bernard loved Rachel’s family as his own. To many, he was known as Bernard, to the special few he was affectionately known as ‘UNC’. Bernard was a life-long member of the Lutheran Church, First at Trinity Lutheran Church in Pincher Creek and then, Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lethbridge. It was the church that taught him the values to become the kind, gentle, loving, generous man he was. His warmth and friendship will be deeply missed by all. A Memorial Service will be held at IMMANUEL LUTHERAN CHURCH, 20 Rocky Mountain Blvd. West, Lethbridge, AB, on Friday, May 1, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Richard Brown officiating. Interment will take place at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, 5 miles South of Pincher Creek on Waterton Highway #6 on Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at 2:00 P.M.. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church, 20 Rocky Mountain Blvd. W. Lethbridge, AB, T1K 8E1 or a charity of one’s choice.
