BARTOSEK, ANNA

It is with great sorrow that we announce the death of ANNA BARTOSEK, beloved wife, mother and grandmother. Anna passed away on February 21 at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital as a result of injuries suffered from a fall in her home. Anna was born on March 11, 1926 in Hajkowka, Poland, the second of four children born to Gregory and Maria Szpendyk. The family was forced to flee their homeland shortly after the beginning of World War ll, resulting in them being placed in German work camps. With the liberation of Europe in 1945, Anna and her family were placed in a refugee camp where she met and married Jozef Magierowski; saw the birth of two children and the eventual emigration of her family, and younger brother and sister to Canada in 1949. She was joined by her parents in 1951. The family settled in the Raymond area; Anna worked in the sugar beet fields and her husband worked for the Town of Raymond. Their family grew from two children to four by 1959. Anna’s husband, Josef, tragically died in the summer of 1959 leaving a young widow and children aged 3 months, 4 years, 11 years and 13 years. In 1963, Anna married Frank Bartosek and this union saw the birth of another son a year later. They farmed in the Raymond area until 1969; then moved to a farm in the Monarch district where they continued to farm until they retired in 1988 and moved to Lethbridge. Anna is survived by her loving husband, Frank; her children, Mary (Leroy) Hovey, Winfield, BC; Bill (Jean) Magierowski, Campbell River, BC; Tony (Heather) Magierowski, Lethbridge, AB; Tim Bartosek, Lethbridge, AB; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and sister-in-law Lily Szpendyk. Anna was predeceased by her son Ted Magierowski, her parents, Gregory and Maria Szpendyk, her sister, Olga Hamza, and her brothers, Vasil and Mikola Szpendyk.
