Bainborough, Ray

DR. RAY BAINBOROUGH, beloved husband of Barbara Goodwin-Bainborough, of Raymond, passed away at the Prairie Ridge Lodge on Wednesday, June 3, 2015 at the age of 97 years.

Ray Bainborough was born in Toronto, Ontario on March 8, 1918, the oldest brother among three, and lived in a number of smaller Ontario towns until his family settled in Gore Bay, Ontario, on the Manitoulin Island in 1929. It was there he met his first wife, Orrice McDougall, to whom he was married until her death in 1996.

As a young and determined man, Ray put himself through medical school, earned a Master's Degree in Science and went on to specialize in pathology, becoming chief pathologist at the Galt Hospital (now the Galt Museum) in 1951 and later the Lethbridge Regional Hospital and St. Michael's hospital in Lethbridge. In addition to his work as a pathologist he co-authored and published a number of research papers including work with the Lethbridge Research Centre.

He contributed greatly to the local community through his volunteer work at Southminster United Church, the Lethbridge Peace Committee and participation in the Kiwanis Club of Lethbridge among others. As well, he supported many national and international charities, too numerous to mention.

Ray had many callings and was curious about everything. His hobbies and interests included gardening (He often said he would be happy being a farmer.), a love of nature, a passion for music (especially Bach), singing in the Southminster Church choir, discussing theology, reading and hard physical work of any kind. He remained physically active until late in his life and was a strong advocate for the health benefits of a good walk.

Ray is lovingly remembered by his wife Barbara, his daughter Barbara Smith, his son Bob, his step-daughters Lisa Keshen and Rena Cox and their families.

A Visitation will be held at CORNERSTONE FUNERAL HOME, 2800 Mayor Magrath Drive South, Lethbridge, AB on Sunday, June 7, 2015 from 4:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M.

A Memorial Service will be held at SOUTHMINSTER UNITED CHURCH, 1011 - 4th Avenue South, Lethbridge, AB on Monday, June 8, 2015 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Preston Schilk officiating.

In lieu of flowers and in memory of Ray, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
