Date of Service: August 29, 2025

ANN ELIZABETH HUDECEK (née Huber), of Coaldale, beloved wife of the late Martin Hudecek for nearly 64 years, passed away peacefully at her family home surrounded by her children on Monday, August 25, 2025 at the age of 90 years.

Ann was born in Coaldale on August 15, 1935, the third of four daughters of Anton and Frances Huber. She leaves her four children and their families: Christine (Ken Rogers) and their children Christopher (Yi Guo) and Camille; Caroline (Martin Cuffe) and their daughter Sarah; Michael (Wendy) and their children Nolan and Hayden; Nadine (David Granson) and their children Emily, Brandon, and Dylan. Ann was predeceased by her husband Martin, parents Frances (Sehlinger) and Anton Huber, and her sisters Mary Huber, Rose Bates, and Clara Bodie.

Growing up in Coaldale, Ann helped with the farm chores and received her schooling at R.I. Baker School. Following high school, she took secretarial training and worked her first job at Neufeld Industries. She met Martin, the love of her life, through church activities and they married in Coaldale in 1958.

They had four children, Christine, Caroline, Michael, and Nadine, and enjoyed numerous family adventures and gatherings, including many vacations, camping trips, Waterton picnics, and board games after delicious turkey dinners on Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. Ann was involved with the Catholic Women’s League (CWL) throughout her life, and in 1973, once her children were older, she took on the position of Assistant to the Secretary Treasurer for the Separate School Board for St. Joseph’s School in Coaldale. She and Martin worked together to manage a Pacific 66/Petro-Canada service station in Lethbridge and later an independent auto repair shop, she taking care of the bookkeeping and payroll, and he repairing the cars and assisting customers.

In 1994, when the Separate School District reorganized and Ann’s position was phased out, she retired and enjoyed spending time with and caring for her grandchildren as well as taking several trips, including a tour of Alaska and a Europe trip returning to the country of her parents’ birth, Germany. She loved spending time with family, reading, sewing, baking, cooking, gardening, crafting, doing all kinds of puzzles including jigsaw puzzles, following her beloved Toronto Blue Jays, and bowling weekly in a Lethbridge league into her eighties.

Ann’s family is grateful to the staff of the Coaldale Home Care Unit for their care and assistance during Ann’s last days.

She will be forever in the hearts of those who love her.
