FRED PHILLIP ALDER, beloved husband of Verna Alder, passed away peacefully in the St. Michael's Health Centre - Palliative Care Unit, on Saturday, March 6, 2021 at the age of 79 years. His long and valiant battle against illness ended with sadness but relief at last.

Dad was a loving and doting father of four: Monty (Myla), Cam (Koula), Lori and Robin (Karen). He was  an especially proud Grandpa of eight: Winston, Nataliya, Crofton, Morgan, Zachary, Markus, Anthony & Katerina. Fred was also a fun-loving uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Fred was born July 23, 1941 to Bruce and Myrtle Alder of Champion, Alberta. His brothers, Delbert and Gerald joined the family soon after in 1944 & 1946. Fred's large extended family of uncles, aunts and cousins formed a closely knit farming community valuing hard work and good times with all.

Fred and his beloved wife Verna Dangerfield were married November 25, 1961 and together built a life in Lethbridge, Alberta.

Fred joined the Lethbridge Fire Department in 1963 and served with valor for 36 years. Fred retired in 1999 with fond memories and a lifelong bond of brotherhood.

Fred loved to travel and experience North America, creating countless friendships and memories (and wearing out many travel trailers) along the way. His friendships with the likeminded and kindred spirits of the Good Sam Club was a true highlight of his retirement.  Whether around a campfire or a game of pegs and jokers, Fred was a constant source of fun and mischief. Fred's generosity and zest for life left lasting smiles on all he touched.

Fred will be missed but fondly remembered for his love of life, endless projects, planning and organizing, creating social events, time for coffee and a friend to everyone. (Abundance of John Deere paint and labels remains)

A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, March 12, 2021 at 11:00 AM with Pastor Keith Dangerfield officiating with Interment to follow. The Funeral Service and Graveside will be live streamed and may be accessed via Fred's obituary on the Cornerstone website.
