Al was born in Taber, AB and later moved to Cardston, AB where the family farmed five sections of leased land and raised livestock. The rigors of farm life taught him resilience, resourcefulness, and a steadfast work ethic, shaping Al into a dedicated individual, who approached every challenge with determination.
During his 35-year tenure with the City of Lethbridge as a Senior Project Administrator, Al achieved significant milestones, including developing an innovative inventory system which lead to Lethbridge having the highest rated sideway system in North America. He spoke at numerous world conferences and earned a spot on the National Research Council of Canada. He believed in the power of collaborative partnerships and held the conviction that the true wisdom often came from those working at the end of the shovel.
Al’s passion for sports, both as a spectator and participant, continued from his youth. He enjoyed playing golf, football, basketball, boxing and hockey, and once held a junior Canadian record in the discus. Some of his fondest memories were made during slow-pitch tournaments, where he forged lifelong friendships and countless memories.
Al’s love for Karey, his children and grandkids, were the cornerstone of his life. He took immense pride in his children’s accomplishments. He especially enjoyed the simple joys of life, like family camping under the stars, skiing with his kids, golfing with his harem and sharing laughter around the dinner table. He found great pride and fulfilment in his family and his love for them was evident in everything he did. Known for his infectious humor and kind spirit, Alan was a radiant beacon of joy and warmth. His presence was cherished by friends, family, and grandkids and his kindness touched every corner of his community. Alan’s daily walks brought delight to local dogs, who eagerly awaited their treats from the ‘treat guy.’ His courage, humour and positivity left an indelible mark on everyone he met, and his zest for life will be fondly remembered by all. Go Packers!
