Community Involvement
Rooted in community. Committed to care.
Rooted in Community. Committed to Care.
At Cornerstone Funeral Home, our commitment to families does not begin at the time of loss — and it does not end when the service is over.
We believe that being part of a community means showing up in meaningful ways, every day. It means supporting one another not only in moments of grief, but in the everyday moments that shape our lives.
This is our home. These are our neighbours. And it is a privilege to give back to the communities that trust us to care for their families.
Why Community Matters to Us
In our profession, we are invited into some of the most personal and difficult moments in a person's life. That responsibility carries far beyond the walls of our funeral home.
We believe that care should be continuous.
That means:
- • Supporting local families beyond the time of need
- • Investing in the wellbeing of our community
- • Creating opportunities to come together
- • Standing alongside local organizations doing meaningful work
- • Teaching, learning, and growing together
Our community initiatives are simply an extension of the same care we offer every family we serve.
We are not only here in moments of loss — we are here to educate, support, and walk alongside our community every step of the way.
30 Days of Giving
In 2025, our team came together for our 30 Days of Giving initiative — a month (30 days for 30 years of service) dedicated to intentional acts of kindness, generosity, and community support.
Throughout these 30 days, we:
- • Supported local charities and non-profit organizations
- • Delivered meals, supplies, or donations to those in need
- • Highlighted community members doing incredible work
- • Performed small acts of kindness that make a big impact
A reminder that even the smallest gesture can make someone feel seen, supported, and valued.
Annual Bottle Drive
Our Annual Bottle Drive has become a meaningful way for our community to come together in support of local causes.
With the help of families, friends, and community members, we collect recyclable bottles and cans — with all proceeds going directly to organizations that are making a difference locally.
Simple, but powerful: a small act from many people can create a meaningful impact for those who need it most.
Highway Clean-Up Initiative
Caring for our community also means caring for the land we share.
Through our Highway Clean-Up Initiative, our team and volunteers come together to help keep our local roadways clean and safe. It's a hands-on way for us to contribute to the beauty and wellbeing of the place we all call home.
Supporting Local Organizations
We feel deeply connected to the community we serve and are grateful for the opportunity to support a wide range of local organizations, charities, and community groups. While each has its own unique mission, they all share a common purpose — strengthening the people and places around us, something we're proud to be part of.
Our support may include:
- • Financial contributions and sponsorships
- • Participation in fundraising events
- • Donating time, resources, or volunteer support
- • Partnering with organizations on meaningful community initiatives
Some of the many organizations we are honoured to support include, but are not limited to:
- • Big Brothers Big Sisters (BBBS)
- • Catholic Women's League (CWL)
- • Chinook Regional Hospital Foundation
- • The Community Foundation of Lethbridge and Southwestern Alberta
- • Interfaith Food Bank
- • Knights of Columbus (KofC)

Education, Tours & Community Learning
We believe that understanding brings comfort — and that education is one of the most meaningful ways we can support our community.
At Cornerstone Funeral Home, we regularly open our doors to provide informational tours and educational experiences for a wide range of groups, including:
- • Victim Services Units
- • Post-secondary classes, including Health Care Aide (HCA) and Gerontology programs
- • Church and faith-based groups
- • Pre-planning seminar attendees
- • Community organizations and other interested groups
These tours are designed to give people the opportunity to ask questions, learn about our profession, and better understand what happens behind the scenes in a funeral home setting.
Just as importantly, they allow individuals to explore these topics at a time when their minds are clear and they are not in the midst of grief or crisis.
We have found when families are informed ahead of time, decisions become less overwhelming, conversations become easier, and fear of the unknown is replaced with understanding.
Our goal is not only to serve families in times of loss — but to help educate and prepare our community with openness, honesty, and care.
Community Events & Gatherings
We believe in creating spaces where people can come together — not just in grief, but in connection.
Throughout the year, we host and participate in events such as:
- • Memorial and remembrance services
- • Educational seminars on grief and pre-planning
- • Community appreciation events
- • Seasonal gatherings and outreach initiatives
These moments help foster connection, conversation, and support across our community.
A Team That Gives Back
Our team members are not only professionals — they are neighbours, volunteers, parents, coaches, and community members.
Many of our staff are actively involved in:
- • Coaching youth sports
- • Volunteering with local charities
- • Serving on boards and committees
- • Supporting schools and community programs
Giving back is not something we schedule — it is part of who we are.
If You Know of a Need
We understand that needs within a community are always evolving.
If you are aware of a family, organization, or initiative that could use support, we welcome you to reach out. While we may not be able to meet every request, we will always do our best to listen and help where we can.
A Shared Commitment
At Cornerstone Funeral Home, we believe that a strong community is built on compassion, generosity, and connection.
We are grateful to be part of this community — and honoured to support it in every way we can.
