Lydia Hummel
1956-2026
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of LYDIA HUMMEL, of Nobleford, AB, on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at the age of 70 years.
Lydia is survived by her daughters: April (Travis) Lyzenga, Julie Bostwick and Robin Vanderflier; and sons, Shane (Deitra) Vanderflier and Robbie (Mikey) Ward. She is also survived by “Oma’s five boys”: Daniel Fothergill, John Bostwick, and Bradley, Caleb & Landon Lyzenga. Left to also mourn her passing are her siblings: TJ (Jannet) Hummel, Wilma (Jack) Wever, Catherine Dykshoorn, and Ralph (Patricia) Hummel; In-laws: Ed Vanderflier, Chris (Len) Duiker and Diane Vanderflier; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Lydia was predeceased by her parents, John & Cobi Hummel; brother Luke Hummel; sister Janet Wever; and in-laws, William & Cornelia Vanderflier and Norm Dykshoorn.
Born and raised in Nobleford, Lydia enjoyed being a part of the community. From being a Calvinette leader, coaching mini basketball, being at all her children's events, to being a member of TOPS, the Red Hat Ladies and more recently, the Nobleford Seniors group, Lydia loved being involved. She had strong roots in Nobleford and even if she left for a while, she always came back.
Lydia was blessed with five grandsons whom she “loved to the moon and back”. Whenever she could, she would watch them play their sports - whether in person or online. Oma will be missed by all her boys.
Lydia had an unconditional love for everyone who came into her home. Friends were always welcomed with open arms and usually a coffee and a hand of cards. Lydia was known to have a gentle soul and a willingness to help whenever she could. She will truly be missed by all who knew her.
A Graveside Service will be held at NOBLEFORD MONARCH CEMETERY, Nobleford, AB, on Thursday, May 14, 2026 at 1:00 P.M.

Dear family, our condolences on the loss of your mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and sister. My memory of Lydia is that she had a heart of gold. During my vacation in Canada, she took us sightseeing and always made sure we were having a good time. We had so much fun that we had stomach aches from laughing.
Lydia, in the short time of knowing you I really had the privilege of having conversations with you. I hope you’re at peace now. I’ll help Robin stay on her feet the best I can. Sleep well x
To the Vanderflier/Hummel families, Lydia was my Calvinette teacher for a couple of years. I always looked forward to attending the years she led the group.
